Notification of Premises
By 16th July 2005 you will need to register your premises with the Environment Agency. This will be known as Notification of Premise. This requirement is for each site. For companies who operate more than one site, each site will need to register (multi franchise)
It will be illegal for any company to collect Hazardous waste from you after the 16th July 2005 if you are un- registered.
The cost for your annual registration in electronic format will be £18.00 via the Environment Agency. West Oils can register on your behalf for a small administration fee (see registration page on our website)
One registration will cover all hazardous waste. You do not need to register through each contractor.
The present Carriers Round system will be replaced from 16th July 2005 with Multiple Collections.
From 16th July 2005 consignment note charges will increase by £8.00 per collection (plus our duty of care charge). Contact West Oils for more info on charges.
The consignment note will be raised by West Oils on your behalf.
Information of each collection will need to be supplied back to you 30 days after the collection of the waste.
You are responsible for keeping all records of waste disposal safe and ready for inspection from the Environment Agency.
The term Special Waste will be replaced with Hazardous Waste
Fixed penalties for minor paperwork offences are expected to be £300.00
There is a requirement for the EA to inspect producers periodically.
You may have received a letter from your dry waste contractor stating what can/cannot be disposed of in their skips/bins after this date. As the waste producer it is your responsibility under the Duty of Care to accurately describe your waste using EWC coding on your waste transfer note. The critical impact of these changes is that hazardous waste MUST be stored separately. It is therefore unacceptable for general waste containers to include things like fluorescent tubes, paint tins, liquids, empty oil/chemical drums, oil contaminated materials, oil filters, oily rags etc
Above Ground Oil Storage Tanks: PPG2 Guidelines
‘Double skinned' plastic and steel oil tanks are no longer compliant with the ‘Control of Pollution (Oil Storage, England) Regulations 2001' unless they are integrally bunded or twin walled.
Many existing tanks will comply with the new legislation, but there will be many that will not be compliant without additional containment.
We have written confirmation from our supplier that any new tanks they supply are compliant with the new legislation.
