Current legislation

If you produce or hold over 500KG of hazardous waste in any one year, you are required by law to register your premises with the Environment Agency and obtain a Hazardous Waste Premises Code. This code needs to be renewed annually and you are required to have this code in place before a waste collector can make a collection from your premises.  Your code has to be placed on the consignment notes issued by the driver at the time of collection and then this information is submitted to the Environment Agency.

Key points:

• The registration is valid for 12 months and must be renewed each year.
• All types of premises that produce or hold less than 500kg of hazardous waste in a year are exempt from registration. You are required to inform us if you are exempt.
• Premises in Scotland Or Northern Ireland are not required to register.
• The regulations in England and Wales are the same.
